Rosaline Glynn has lived on the North Island for 41 years. She moved to Canada from Manchester, England 50 years ago.
Glynn became the vice-chair of the Port Hardy Senior’s Society in 2014, and then became the chair in November of 2017.
Glynn has dedicated countless hours to finding grants, submitting proposals, setting up events, recruiting volunteers, and providing support all in the name of bettering the situation for seniors living in Port Hardy.
“I want to make sure seniors don’t become isolated and forgotten,” said Glynn. “That’s my main reason for doing what I do. I also want to provide some fun for those who have worked all their life so they can enjoy their last few years.”
Month after month, Glynn dedicates her time and energy to ensuring the members of the centre receive continued community support while maintaining ongoing activities. Given the efforts she puts in to helping her community, Glynn is tireless in motivating, encouraging, and supporting Port Hardy seniors to become more active. This has become very evident in how vibrant the senior’s centre has become with more and more members exercising, socializing, attending potlucks, crafting, and playing snooker, to name just a few things.
Glynn is also dedicated to ensuring that all members maintain and develop a social network, which helps to keep neighbours connected and supported.
When asked what she’s most proud of accomplishing for local seniors living on the North Island, Glynn said “I think it’s the fact that we have become a very happy place at the Port Hardy Senior’s Centre, and it feels good to know people want to be there with us.”
